(Starbase Geneva - Conference Room - SQNCO Admiral Greeley - 1458) Eileen walked in to see a room full of people when she arrived for the meeting. Her eyes passed over the assembled group, lingering on Aragorn, before she found an empty chair and took a seat. She had deliberately worn a standard issue uniform -- only her pips distinguished her as a flag officer -- in the hopes that no one would make too much fuss over her presence. After everybody had finally turned up, Aragorn cleared his throat and stood up. During his speech, Eileen looked around the room and noticed that she was not at all the only female in the room, and in fact nearly every female seemed as enraptured by the charismatic captain as she was. And how could she blame them? He was so handsome, so powerful, so energetic... yet Eileen found herself snapped back to reality by the direction that Aragorn's speech began to take. "And I think we will get a chance to prove our mettle sooner rather than later. In fact very soon. What I am about to say, is probably a violation of several Starfleet Regulations, but frankly, that won't stop me one second. Because I know that you do have a right to know. "Also, be aware, that what I am about to say, is not for general consumption. In fact, I want you all to keep this STRICTLY to yourselves. For the information, if passed on to the wrong people, might very well start a war. If we are not at war already. "From the information that I have gathered, it is my strong belief that five months ago, a vessel from the Romulan Star Empire has attacked the USS Nimitz and severely damaged it. The reasons for the attack are unknown to me. It could have been a deliberate act by the Romulans or it could be that there was a 'rogue' Romulan Captain who felt he could hit a Federation vessel, destroy it and leave the scene without problems. The fact that at the time, the Nimitz was outside Federation territory, does not excuse the attack." Aragorn went on to describe all the information that he had deduced, however he had deduced it. Eileen sat stone faced, trying to betray no hint of emotion. Neither her apprehension that Aragorn was sharing this information with so large a group of people, nor her admiration for his cleverness and deductive abilities. "So, ladies and gentlemen, the task ahead of us is clear. We have to cater the needs of the Nimitz crew, get the ship repaired as quickly as possible, ensure that nobody gets near to the ship who shouldn't be there and keep our eyes peeled for Romulan activity." Captain Aragorn fell silent waiting for reactions from the crew. Actun stood up, and everyone's heads were turning in his direction. "Captain, I'm Commander Actun, Starfleet Intelligence. First I must say that would have expected to know this information you have just revealed." Although Actun was a Vulcan, Eileen thought she detected a hint of irritation in his voice. She may have been imagining things. "Second, I will start to go through any information the SFI have about Romulan activity in this area. Third, most of you know by know now that the former CO's... condition, is due to an deliberate attack. It may be connected. I'll search for information about the Romulan Intelligence Technology to see if they are able to create a mind control device." Eileen waited until Actun's statements had been addressed, and all the other assembled officers had had a chance to contribute. Once the meeting wound down, Aragorn dismissed the assembled officers, and Eileen stood back as everyone filed out of the room, slowly making her way towards the captain in the process. Once she was close enough to address him, she resisted the urge to break into a wide smile, and instead forced a stern tone into her voice. "Captain. I would like to discuss this information that you have discovered and discussed at this meeting. Please report to my office at 1900 hours this evening. That should give you time to prepare your materials for my review." She blinked and turned quickly away as she realized that her gaze had wandered down his frame and had reached a particularly delicate region at the same time that she had said the word 'materials.' "I will see you then, captain," she said as she walked out of the room. **** (Starbase Geneva - Conference Room - SFI Commander Actun - 14:59) Getting there just in time, Actun found himself being a part of confusion about who was sitting where. The newer officers were filling up from behind as they expected the older officers to have their own seats. Actun ended up in the middle where there was plenty of room and looked at Captain Aragorn for the first time. At the time for Nimitz' visit at DSG1, Actun had been a mere Ensign and CSO. He had only met with the Scientists; Tobian, Larson, Brannigan... but here had been one more on the list, a Louise Palmer, wife to the Captain. Actun wondered for a second if she was on the station as well and decided that she would. She had been absent due to a sudden illness with the Captain and shortly thereafter the whole Command Staff of Nimitz had been replaced... Actun listened to the Captain, surprised at the logical errors Aragorn were making but realized soon that he had an emotional logic in his speech. Actun kept quiet knowing his own limitations in understanding the emotions of this Captain. One thing he *did* know was the reputation though. Despite this, Actun noticed the Captain's violent disrespect for Starfleet regulations about classified information. Also, as the SFI representative he should have known this if any but it was all news to him as well. Actun sat quiet and let his mind work. They were going to meet with the Nimitz soon, what would happen then was what was important, *how* it happened didn't seem to bother this Captain. So be it! He was there to gather and analyze information, not supervise the officers. Could the Romulans be the answer to whom and why regarding the recent events on the station? Captain Aragorn fell silent waiting for reactions from the crew. Actun stood up, expecting most of the officers to do the same. However, if they were all shocked by the news or whatever the reason, Actun found himself the only one standing up and heads were turning in his direction. "Captain, I'm Commander Actun, Starfleet Intelligence. First I must say that would have expected to know this information you have just revealed." It was enough that Admiral Greeley was present, he didn't have to look at her to make his point. "Second, I will start to go through any information the SFI have about Romulan activity in this area. Third, most of you know by know now that the former CO's... condition, is due to an deliberate attack. It may be connected. Vladek hadn't get the time to ask him something, he had already disappeared ~ What's going on in there ? ~ and he entered the room. Some officers were already present, the FO, the ACMO, Tianna, Isengard and Vladek noticed another officer he didn't knew, he noticed the pips on his collar, a captain. Vladek greeted him "Sir " and sat down on the nearest seat. After everybody had finally turned up, the Captain cleared his throat and stood up. "Ladies and Gentlemen! Please allow me to introduce myself, I am Captain Aragorn. And since noon today I am your new CO. " ~ let's go for another ride, another CO, I hope this one has no problem with Romulans ~ thought Vladek in reminding the welcome he had with the former CO. Aragorn waited for the bustle to quiet down a bit, and looked across the room before continuing his speech. Vladek listened carefully but as more as the Captain was relating the incident with the Nimitz and the possible implication of the Romulans, Vladek felt the others officers's eyes on him. ~ Oh no, it isn't going to happen here too, not that perpetual suspicion ~ Vladek went back to the Captain's speech who had just finished and was waiting for reactions from the crew. Actun, his former CO on the Boudicca, now dressed in SFI uniform stood up and all the heads turned in his direction. " Captain, I'm Commander Actun, Starfleet Intelligence. All the facts were involving the Romulans so Vladek stood up and took the floor to say "Captain, I'm Ensign Rofellian, TAC/ASC. Due to my origin, I can't hide, I'm really concerned about this affair, so I'm standing as volunteer to help the Cmdr in his research, we could use my Scout ship's database." Vladek made a pause, he looked around, everybody seemed to be astonished. What the hell was he talking about. And he enchained "Oh, I forgot to mention that fact, the ship was belonging to my dead father, he was a Tal Shiar agent, I've uploaded the database recently with the computer of the RMI agents we had discovered on the Boudicca. I think that ship could be useful too, she is fully operational and she has also a cloaking device who might be helpful. With your permission, of course Sir " he declared in looking at he new CO. The medic said as pushed a few buttons and changed the vial on the hypospray in his Medkit, then he handed the officer the hypospray with the medication and a light tranquilizer mixed in. "Stop back in at sickbay very soon!" he said. A bit stupefied, Aragorn looked at hypospray the medic had pushed into his hands, then to the medic who was turning and got ready to walk away. "Hang on there!" Aragorn suddenly shouted, stopping the medic in his tracks. "Do you know who I am?" "Uhhh, no." the medic simply replied. "I am your boss, I am!" Aragorn raised his voice and grabbed his right hand side collar to show him his pips. However, not feeling his rank pips, Aragorn frowned. "Huh? I KNOW I put them on this morning! I KNOW I did. Anyway, you can ask the FO, she'll vouch for me!" (Reply Francais) Aragorn sighed. "I take your point. I wonder where the pips are, though. I distinctly remember me putting them on .....Sjeesh." Aragorn started looking on the floor of the sickbay to see if they had somehow landed there. But as he went on all fours to look under the beds, he bumped his head against the medic's legs and suddenly remembering decorum, Aragorn quickly got up. With a final attempt to save face, Aragorn grinned at the medic, nodded and said, "Nope, no dust there, not even under the beds. Well done, Ensign." Aragorn extended his hand to slap the medic on his back but saw that he was still holding the hypo. Remembering why he had come in the first place, he rolled up his sleeve, and administered himself a dose. "Thank you for this," he said to the medic, returning the hypo to the man and smiled. "But I won't keep you any longer. Lise......Commander Arianna told me that you were a bit understaffed. Ensign." Aragorn nodded politely as he quickly made his way out of sickbay. (Reply Francais) (Starbase Geneva - Conference Room - CO - Captain Aragorn - 14.45) Having remembered that his FO was probably organising the meeting, he had asked a few crewmembers where the meeting rooms where and he had finally made his way over there. Upon arrival, he found the room to be empty though and a quick look on the computer screen showed him that he was a bit early. He sat down in a chair and closed his eyes, trying to make some sense of the story about the Nimitz. He re-adjusted his views on a number of points and nodded as he thought about the way he was going to address the staff. He heard somebody come in and Aragorn looked up, to see his First Officer enter the room. Aragorn smiled at her and saw her walking over to him. Then she threw her arms around his neck and said: "That was soo sweet of you". Aragorn grinned but suddenly felt two kisses, one on the cheek, the other on his neck. A bit, well, in fact QUITE a bit, taken aback, Aragorn saw how she disentangled herself from him and took her position at his right. Aragorn frowned slightly as he kept staring straight ahead, trying to make sense of it all. She was obviously talking about the book about Aragorn's customs. The kiss on the cheek was a definite term of endearment and only showed the full trust one placed on the other. But, no matter how he pained his brains, he could not remember the significance of a kiss in the neck. Or perhaps, that was a Klingon custom? Aragorn had heard of some of the things that Klingon women did when 'being friendly', and that was definitely a bit more extensive, and a LOT more painful, than a simple kiss in the neck. And didn't most hunting animals carry their cubs by the neck? For a predatory race, the neck must be a place of great trust. Aragorn smiled, having worked out the problem. By giving him two kisses, she had told him that she was putting her trust in him and that he could put his trust in her. Feeling relieved, he gave Lise a big wink, so that she would know that he had understood. Another person was coming in and Aragorn, seeing that Lise had intercepted the female, started working on the speech again. He was going over the order of the proceedings in his mind when he heard two sighs. Surprised, he looked up and saw the two women look at him. He smiled and looked up when another person arrived in the outfit of a Security officer. When he sat down, a frown was distinctly showing. He glanced at Lise, then his frown deepened. ~He obviously found something out about the former CO,~ Aragorn thought to himself, "and what he has found out isn't easy to tell.~ Softly shaking his head, Argorn wondered if he should add something in his speech about the old CO. But he could not think of what to say. What was there to say, when a CO runs amok? Aragorn made the decision to refrain from mentioning the CO, until he had heard a bit more of the case. "Admiral! How good to see you again! Have you fully recovered from your Vegan disease?.....Sir" Aragorn's head shot up as he regarded the newcomer. "Mr. Pitt!" Aragorn said as he looked at his former Engineer, now dressed in an OPS-uniform. But was it? As Aragorn looked at the officer, his gaze was drawn down and even further down to a number of small holes in the mans jumpsuit, starting from his breast down towards the legs. Aragorn's smile faded, then re-appeared with vicious intent. "MR. Pitt! How nice of you to drop in. It's back to Captain, regretfully. But very kind of you to ask. Very kind indeed." Aragorn's smile was now from one ear to the other. "And how have you been, MR. Pitt? Keeping busy, I suspect?" "Uhh, yes, Sir." "Good, I thought as much. Very busy?" "Uhhh, yes, Sir. Lots of reports and...." "In fact, Mr. Pitt," Aragorn interrupted, "I would like to put it to you that you have been so busy with your work that you didn't have time to dress properly before arriving here. That IS the most workable solution for you at the moment. The other one being that you don't mind walking around like a tramp, especially when saying hello to your new boss." Argorn's smile was etched on his face but his eyes did not join the merriment. "Because, MISTER PITT," Aragorn followed slowly, "THAT would really upset me. And you should know that I REALLY don't like to get upset, do you, MISTER PITT?" "IN FACT, MISTER PITT!" Aragorn caught himself and after a sigh, he continued, "In fact, Mr. Pitt, I would put it to you that your BEST option would be to go out again, get yourself a decent uniform and then return. And NEVER to return in such a shabby outfit again, BECAUSE IF YOU DO, I WILL HAVE YOU POSTED TO A DILITHIUM MINE SO FAST THAT YOUR FEET WON'T TOUCH THE GROUND!" (Reply Dirk, anyone present) Aragorn, breathing heavily after the shouting, closed his eyes and sank back into his chair. When he re-opened them, he found the Officer had left and with a grunt, Aragorn regarded the newest arrival. In which Aragorn recognised the Medical Officer that hat attended to him earlier that day. ~Oh boy!~ Aragorn thought sourly, when the officer sat down with a face as if he had bitten into a lemon. ~This really isn't going to be easy, is it?~ After everybody had finally turned up, Aragorn cleared his throat and stood up. "Ladies and Gentlemen! Please allow me to introduce myself, I am Captain Aragorn. And since noon today I am your new CO. " Aragorn waited for the bustle to quiet down a bit, and looked across the room. "What can I say? That I am looking forward to be working together with such a group of talented officers? And that I am sure that we will be able to work out all out little differences and how important it is for us all to follow Starfleet Regulations?" Aragorn smiled. "Of course I should say that, because it is all in the Guidelines for CO's when addressing a new group. Starfleet Print, Edition 2402. But I have a little problem with that, if you don't mind. A few little, problems, in fact. One, is that I don't want to fill your ears with mindless dribble about how great and good we are, while we both know that reality is always a bit different. We are weak and prone to falter. That on the whole, we remain standing, instead of crumbling back into the pits of our heritage, is only due to YOUR commitment and NOT because some bl**dy book said so." Aragorn took another breath. "Another problem is that we are FAR away from Federation and it's protection. If we fail than WE will get our a**es kicked. That makes the Federation and Starfleet Regulations a bit less direct as they would want it. At the end of the day, AGAIN, it is down to YOUR common sense and sense of right and wrong that makes the difference, not a rule, written in a Regulation. The intent is good, the intent behind the Regulation has always been good. And I FULLY endorse the intent, if not always the wording. But let's face it, ladies and gentlemen, if Starfleet requires you to die for a good cause, and ultimately that IS why we are here, it better be that that cause is one that you actually WANT to lay your life down for." Aragorn again looked round amidst a stunned silence. He grinned. "By now you must have realised that I am not a run-of-the-mill Captain. And to be honest, I will never be one. Instead I have been brought up on my homeplanet, Vega 13, to ALWAYS state the truth and ALWAYS to be true to my word. And it is my intent to do just that. It was my intent, when I led the Nimitz and led 280 people out of a crew of 400 to their deaths, and it still is my intent now." Aragorn blinked away a tear. "280 men and women," he continued softly, " 280 who gave their life so that a Starbase could be retaken and an invasion repelled. 280 Humans, Vulcans, Bolians ended theirs so that countless others would not die." Aragorn fell silent for a moment. "And although 280 deaths doesn't sound much if you look at the extent of their actions, it's still 280 lives too many. And I will be DA**ED if I let even ONE more life slip through my fingers. So that WILL be the new regime on this Starbase. From this day forward I will not allow ANYONE dying. We WILL do our job well and we will succeed, but if the only option to succeed is to lay down even one life, I ABSOLUTE REFUTE that option. And we WILL find another way to do what we have to do." "Don't be mistaken, ladies and gentlemen. Death IS a constant, a law of nature, rather than a choice. And death lurks in many places. But I charge you all to take heed of my words. By this time in your life, you WILL have witnessed the death of somebody close. We all have. And I can only hope that that death has showed you how empty ones's life becomes if part of it is missing. And that is an emptiness that should be avoided at all cost." "And that's where we all come into play. You and me together. When the going gets tough, it won't be Starfleet that is going to save our hides. They are TOO far away to be counted upon. No, ladies and gentlemen, the only ones that you CAN count on are the ones near you, the people on this base. Only we are close enough to help. If we can't work together, then, frankly, we don't stand a hope in h**l. And like I said, that is an option, that I will not accept. So you will work together, and you will like it, because by doing so, you will substantially decrease the chance of biting the bullet, if you pardon the expression." "Now I know that you simply just can't command things to happen. We have to work at it to MAKE them happen. And that is the order of the day. I know that a lot of things have been upsetting people here but somehow, somewhere, we will HAVE to turn these around. If there is ANYTHING that you would like to discuss, then be assured that my door will never be closed. And that is a VEGAN promise. AND of course we have our own Counselor whose job it is to assist eliminating personal problems. You are not alone. We ARE there to help, if you only give us a chance to prove it." Aragorn waited a few moments. "And I think we will get a chance to prove our mettle sooner rather than later. In fact very soon. What I am about to say, is probably a violation of several Starfleet Regulations, but frankly, that won't stop me one second. Because I know that you do have a right to know." "Also, be aware, that what I am about to say, is not for general consumption. In fact, I want you all to keep this STRICTLY to yourselves. "From the information that I have gathered, it is my strong belief that five months ago, a vessel from the Romulan Star Empire has attacked the USS Nimitz and severely damaged it. It could have been a deliberate act by the Romulans or it could be that there was a 'rogue' Romulan Captain who felt he could hit a Federation vessel, destroy it and leave the scene without problems. The fact that at the time, the Nimitz was outside Federation territory, does not excuse the attack." "Of course this attack would be enough reason to declare war on the Romulan Empire, but only IF there was proof. And I believe, ladies and gentlemen, that that proof, is now on its way to Starbase Geneva!" "Yes, I believe that the attack failed and that the Nimitz somehow survived. And the Nimitz is now on its way back to Geneva. Although there is a Fleet Admiral out there who is desperately trying to keep a lock on all communications regarding Nimitz and the Romulans, I have been able to gather enough material to substantiate my claim." Here Aragorn went into detail on how he had found out about the attack. "And if I am not badly mistaken, she will arrive within a day or so! Now if she does, I want this Starbase to be ready to assist her with medical treatment, repairs or anything else they might need. BUT there is more." "As I stated before there is proof of the attack and the perpetrator onboard the Nimitz, no doubt in her computer core. And as long as that information is there, we will have a case. But the case will fall if anything happens to the information on board the ship. This is the reason why there is no communication about the ship. If the Romulans want to stop this war from happening, and I believe they do intend to do so, they will do their utmost to destroy the evidence. And until the Nimitz has arrived here safely, the best way to do it, is to destroy the ship. No ship, no data, no case." "If they fail to find the Nimitz, and she makes it to here, then we have a whole new different ballgame. The Romulans could of course attack the Starbase when the Nimitz is here and destroy both, but that will surely have severe repercussions for the RSE. The Klingons, albeit reluctant, will have no option than to declare war upon the RSE as well and the Romulans will not be able to withstand a double assault." "They, of course, know that and that is why I am not that concerned about a direct attack on the base and the Nimitz. But it would be more in line with their nature to have an 'accident' happen to the Nimitz, destroying her computer core and thus destroying all evidence. Now to make sure that such an accident would be sufficient, it would have to be pretty horrendous. And a big scale accident on the Nimitz could have serious consequences for the base." "So, ladies and gentlemen, the task ahead of us is clear. We have to cater the needs of the Nimitz crew, get the ship repaired as quickly as possible, ensure that nobody gets near to the ship who shouldn't be there and keep our eyes peeled for Romulan activity." Here Aragorn stopped and waited for response from his staff before he would discuss the actions he felt were necessary. Eileen laughed aloud at Tom's query, in part to conceal the reddish hue rising in her cheeks. "Oh, don't be silly! It was just a good day today, that's all." Ordinarily an Admiral wouldn't necessarily tolerate such flippant behavior on the part of her aide, but Tom had been with her for nearly ten years and was also her friend and confidante. (Starbase Geneva - Admiral's Quarters - SQNCO Admiral Greeley - 1840) Eileen looked in the mirror, satisfied finally by her appearance. She had debated for several minutes over which shades of makeup to use before deciding on the best combination. She subtly adjusted the blue dress she was wearing; it was the one that brought out her eyes the most brilliantly. Not that she hoped to be wearing it for very long as she thought of the negligee she wore beneath it with a devilish grin. Once more she pushed up on the bottom of her hair in an attempt to make it look just that much fuller, but she had been saddled with a large amount of very fine hair, which proved difficult to work with. She grabbed the bottle of vintage 2387 Dom Perignon, two Waterford crystal champagne flutes, and the load of scented candles she had replicated, and stuffed them in her satchel. Almost creeping out of her quarters, she hurried to the turbolift, hoping no one noticed her made-up state, even though it was unlikely that anyone on the station would even recognize her at first glance with the makeup and hairstyle. (Starbase Geneva - Admiral's Module - SQNCO Admiral Greeley - 1855) Eileen lit the last candle and then stood up, the unaccustomed height of the heels on her shoes causing her to teeter precariously for a brief moment. "Computer, lights," she ordered, and soon the only light in the office came from the candles in the room and the stars out the window. She walked past the chair where her blue dress lay carelessly flung across its back and came around the table to the plush sofa. She set the bottle of champagne in its cooler on the table, the two flutes beside it, and then reclined on the sofa, clad only in the exotic Nubian negligee which she had been waiting to wear -- its opacity was a function of the angle at which the fabric was observed, so at any given time, certain strips of the fabric would be completely transparent. She turned slightly so that she was lying on her right side, her left leg slightly bent forward so as to accentuate the curve of her hip. She propped her head up with her right hand, her gold chain necklace with its elegant yet not overstated cluster of jewels resting just below the dip of her neckline, and gazed at the door, waiting for the chime which would signify his arrival...
